Bridge programs prepare adults with limited academic or limited English skills to enter and succeed in post-secondary education and training that leads to career path employment in skilled jobs.

The Pathways to Careers Network is a joint initiative of Women Employed and the Chicago Jobs Council. The Network provides information on policies and programs related to bridge programs, facilitates connections between stakeholders, and helps to advance a policy agenda.
While there is not a dedicated federal or state level source for bridge funding, Illinois Community College Board and DCEO have expanded and continue to expand these programs within their existing workforce and education programs. For provider organizations, employers, and community colleges interested in getting involved with a bridge program or creating one, this newly released bridge program “how to” guide from ICCB and DCEO provides useful tips and advice. Additionally, the Office of Community College Research and Leadership has conducted extensive research on the model and offers the following reports with overviews and more context regarding Illinois’ bridge program landscape:
